Hey there! Welcome to Dolphinapples, one of the many pages on the web that doesn't have a huge amound of planning or purpose.

The origins of the name are traced back to when two people met in a Yahoo chat room. This was way back when chat rooms were just for text, and there weren't too many options for killing time on the web (no Youtube, and eBay was just getting going in popularity). The two discovered a site where they could play card games and checkers against eachother (amazing I know), and in order to do so they had to create their own profiles and game room. When choosing profile images one chose a dolphin, while the other who was using the screen name of Rubberapple (two things that seemed to have little in common and seemed funny at the time) chose an apple. The title of the room was made "Dolphinapples", and eventually seemed a good idea for a domain name.

Of course in order to make a website there had to be knowledge of HTML, which was pretty well the only way to do it at the time. Rubber Apple started taking the source code for websites he liked and playing with them on his home computer until he had an idea how they worked. Then he started learning how to use graphic applications like Photoshop and Macromedia Dreamweaver to make his own images, although he also made a collection of some saved off the web. Several people have asked him to make websites for them thanks to this knowledge, and he has, although he tends to only be attracted to the project if it is new or interesting. His idea of interesting can be summed up with his page about snails... I mean, why the hex snails?

Now working on an arts and recreation magazine for the Sunshine Coast, as well as maintaining a website for the Gibsons Public Art Gallery and at least one artist, the artist formerly known as Rubber Apple now is looking for new distractions in creativity while also increasing his knowledge in technical fields. Thus it will be no surprise if this page is destroyed and recreated in a matter of days....

This site is broken up into several sections, the main ones being listed way up at the top of this page with all the red dolphinapples. They are as follows:

home

Home Page
Guess what; you're here! Every website has to have a home page, often known as the "index". If you build a website without any html file called either "index" or "default" then visitors that just type in the domain name will end up looking either at a list of all your files, or at some silly 404 page set up by the organization that hosts your website. So... this is the homepage. You can come back here whenever you want, which might be a good idea as I have a tendency to rework everything when I get bored.

Pets

Animals
Some people have real issues with animals, and some people want to adopt everything that crawls, swims, or flies. This page doesn't have every animal imaginable, but will have profiles and a little information about the pets currently residing at Dolphinapples (ie: guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, budgies, newts, bettas, guppies, neon tetras, danios, apple snails, ramshorn smails, and pond snails. Maybe cockroaches, but that's only if the traps don't work.

Places

Walkabout
Travel is usually an aspiration for people, something they want to do once they have time/money/no more children. Here are a few places we've been to, points of interest, descriptions, ratings, and of course photos.

People

Lies
It's all an excuse to rationalize the profile page, I swear! Well, not really. These are people I care a lot about, or just think are nifty. Even if I write something detracting, don't let it throw you; these are great people!

Profile

Portfolio
This isn't everything, but it should give a good selection of things I've done in the past as far as web graphics and pages. It has yet to be decided whether the work will show up as pdf documents (Acrobat), or as the actual HTML. Either way it should give a good idea of how loopy I am... once he gets around to it and leaves the dang source code on this page alone.

Professions

Jobs
The government of Canada and the Provincial government of BC have provided some great resources for people looking for work, or deciding what they might want to do. Many of the facilitators for these programs will say that everyone goes through at least three careers in their lifetime. Here's my collection so far.

Popfingers

Doodles & Scribbles
Called "popfingers" because they usually get you so focussed you don't realize you've been holding your hands in one position for hours until they simply have to have their joints popped. This happens often with writing, typing, doodling, or exercising the puberty perogative. Examples of all except the latter are here.

Puzzles

Puzzles
Mainly images that look kooky, this page is dedicated to things that get the brain buzzing. The only problem with many puzzes is you can only do them once, but if you try to develop your own your brain gets more exercise, and so does the puzzle.

Events

Events
If all you evr do is wake up, go to work, come home and go to bed, then you miss out on quite a bit. "There's nothing to do" is usually an excuse to do nothing. 2008 is the year I'm trying to go to everything I hear about, be it trade shows or just interesting events people tend to be too afraid to go to.
